The story that led me here today…

Animals have always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, I was completely captivated by horses, wildlife and anything connected to the natural world. I spent countless hours dreaming of one day having a horse and a pet lion and riding my horse on the beach like something out of the Black Stallion. I was also very particular from an early age which is why I must get on so well with my QC Manager Inspector Gadget(see his ‘Staff Profile’ below)…I was the child in the dressing up race on school sports day who did up every button on the shirt while other children raced ahead of me to the finish line, leaving me dead last but having dressed myself properly and with care and commenting that the outfit didn’t match! It’s no surprise that with all that attention to detail and love of animals that art became a natural progression in my life.

I still remember drawing snails as a child and realising that I didn’t just want to draw a basic snail – you know, the spiral shell with triangle markings and a funny slug shape stuck beneath it with big goggly eyes and a smiley face(so super cute)…I wanted to draw a ‘real snail’ so I unknowingly set to work on the start of my realism journey. That desire to observe, understand and recreate the world around me has stayed with me ever since.

Painting is about far more than creating an image. It is about taking a blank canvas and transforming it into something that can convey emotion, preserve a memory and bring a feeling into a room. Whether it is the power of a wild animal, the connection between an animal and their environment, or a moment of beauty found in nature, I love the process and sense of joy I get from bringing those stories to life.

Alongside my own art practice, I have experience working in education, supporting learners with different needs. This has shaped the way I approach teaching, with a focus on clear explanations, encouragement and helping people progress at their own pace.

Through Natural World Art Studio I hope to help as many people as possible experience that same sense of joy. I wish to support you as you develop your skills, build confidence and create artwork you feel truly proud of so that you too can tell magical stories and evoke emotion through your art for years to come.

Everyone has creativity within them and you can change the world in positive ways through connection and storytelling by painting, and my goal is to help inspire your creativity to burn brighter and to help you develop your skills in both technical ability and storytelling through art so that you can change the world for good…one brushstroke at a time.
